Paraiba Technological Park Foundation

The Paq TcPB Foundation: 25 years contributing towards the development of Brazil

Founded in 1984, the Paq TcPB stands among the four pioneering technological centers in Brazil. It is a profit free organization whose main objective is to promote both scientific and technological development as well as the entrepreneurial inventiveness in the State of Paraiba. By encouraging the articulation among partners within the vast sphere of knowledge and production, the Paq TcPB has come upon new ways of attracting and establishing a new competitive outlook in Paraiba.

Our commitment to local development

Along the years, our organization has become a strong pillar supporting projects and programs within the scientific, technological and information sectors. This is a story of success born out of the prestige, credit and achievements obtained in the course of its activities and partnership with other important institutions.

The Paq TcPB works in collaboration with several other institutions, such as: the Federal University of Paraiba (UFPB), the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG), Campina Grande Municipality, the Northeastern Brazil Bank (BNB), the State University of Paraiba (UEPB), the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), FIEP, the Paraiba State Government and the Association of Technology-based Enterprises (AEBT).

The tools to promote the development of innovative entrepreneurship

The Paq TcPB, through its various innovative, entrepreneurial supporting services makes it possible the implementation of new and challenging ideas coming from viable, forward-looking enterprises. Every year we assist a great number of entrepreneurial projects, making them feasible and increasing their chances of success. Entrepreneurial guidance, business planning, technical and marketing information, registering and other legal business procedures concerning the creation of new companies and products, events, training, cooperation with universities and research centers are but a few of the facilities we provide.

1 – Campina Grande Technological Incubator – ITCG

Entrepreneurs in Paraiba can now change their ideas into business with the technical assistance of the ITCG. The ITCG has, in the course of its 20 years of existence, helped over 70 companies with hatching and association programs.

2 – Technological Innovation Nucleus – NIT

The NIT works as a center of entrepreneurial innovative policy. Its main objective is to support actions aimed at promoting technological innovations of products and services in accordance with the government law that encourages the productive sector with their innovative undertakings in the areas of scientific and technological research.

3 – Project Center - CP

The Project Center is an important instrument of search and identification of both national and international opportunities. This is done through the publication of official publicity in the areas of science, technology and innovation. The NIT also helps with the identification of potential financing sources for sustainable, social programs.

4 – Paraiba Network of Incubators – REPARI

REPARI was founded in 2003 with the sole purpose of promoting technological, innovative exchanging programs in support of technological incubation and other technological supporting institution all over Paraiba. REPARI is part of another center – the RIDI, Comprehensive Development Center of Incubators, whose focus lies on the articulation and implementation of actions towards shared business ventures.

5 – First Enterprise Program – PRIME: an INNOVATING program!

This is a program created by the Agency for the Financing of Studies and Projects – FINEP aimed at giving support to fledging, innovative Brazilian companies. Here, enterprises from zero to 24 months old, whose projects exhibit strong innovative features (products and services, management and marketing), are the ones eligible to benefit from PRIME.

PRIME represents a novelty in the way hatching programs operate in Brazil to support enterprises. The final total amount of money involves values of the order of R$240 thousand for every assisted company. These financial resources will be made available in the course of two years. The first part, which is of R$l20 thousand, will come from a Program of Economic Subvention to Innovation, and is non-refundable. The second portion, on the other hand, which comes from the Zero-Interest Program, will be repayable in one hundred interest-free installments.

6 -Expansion Plan

Digital Oasis

The setting up of a new undertaking, called Digital Oasis, will be completed by 2010 with the objective of providing an entrepreneurial environment directed towards seeing to our entrepreneurs’ most important needs.

The Digital Oasis will be lodged in a 19-storey building, and will be destined to enterprises that work with Information Technology and Communication. The Digital Oasis building will be located in a special area called zone of Science and Technology as determined by the Municipal Administrative Plan. It will occupy an area in the district of Bodocongó known as the Technological Pole of Bodocongó.

Planned to provide entrepreneurs with comfort and general facilities, the Digital Oasis will benefit from high broadband connectivity 24 hours a day, rendered by an optic-fiber network and a modern telephone center with VoIP facilities. There will be a large parking lot and an ample area for events, including a lecture hall with the capacity to hold 250 people, meeting halls, videoconference facilities, and an exhibition hall, among many other amenities.

Telmo Araújo Technology and Innovation Center – CITTA

CITTA has as its moving axis the enterprises from the productive chain of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). However, besides the ICT’s, other technology-based sectors are welcomed to CITTA. The center will embrace two different kinds of enterprises: line-production enterprises and enterprises focused mainly on research and development. In order to achieve these objectives, the projects there installed will count on the support of warehouses for manufacturing activities; chiefly, activities involving storing logistics; harbor connections for transportation – and here there will be the so-called “dry docks”; – and, finally, new markets and a number of similar facilities such as the digital roadway of Campina Grande, which will come into operation in 2009.

CITTA will certainly attract new business partnerships and the exploration of at least one hundred newly set up pioneering enterprises, which will be fostered by the PRIME Program.

7 - Education and Research Communitarian Network of Campina Grande (METROCG)
Managing Campina Grande’s high-connectivity network

The Education and Research Communitarian Network of Campina Grande – the METROCG - is a pool of 13 education and research institutions – public and private – interconnected by an optic-fiber ring so as to provide its associates with a high-connectivity Internet facility with lGB outlet, linked to the National Network of Research – RNP.

Better cost-benefit policy and fast high-resolution image transmission of unlimited capacity are but a few of the facilities the METROCG will provide to all participating institutions.

CREDENTIALS

The PaqTcPB is highly creditable; on account of this, it has been most frequently hired by government enterprises directly, with no need of public bidding. The PaqTcPB is the only institution in the State of Paraíba duly credited by the CATI/MCT as an overruling organization perfectly in tune with the Brazilian Law of Informatics, which accounts for the agreements it holds with the HP, Motorola, Nokia, GEBRA/Brasympe, among other important enterprises.

The Foundation PaqTcPB has been acknowledged as a Public Utility Entity by the Municipality of Campina Grande as stated by the Municipal Law 2.018 of December 26th, 1989.
